Chris Bainbridge has a diverse and extensive work experience. Chris has worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Speech Graphics since 2019, where they focus on the development of the Rapport project. In this role, they are responsible for creating a new communications platform that enables users to have a "video" call with a real-time talking avatar. Chris has written the complete Rapport streaming backend in Go.
Prior to joining Speech Graphics, Chris worked as a Senior Software Developer at Corero Network Security from 2017 to 2019. In this role, they were responsible for Linux systems integration and tooling around build, deploy, and upgrade of a custom Linux distribution for bespoke hardware and virtual machines. Chris optimized compile and VM build time, created new products, and implemented upgrade mechanisms, among other tasks.
Before Corero Network Security, Chris was involved in open-source development from 2000 to 2016. Chris worked on various projects, including the Linux kernel, AskUbuntu, and the creation of a parallel implementation of the "Fasta" benchmark in Golang, among others.
Additionally, Chris has held positions at other companies such as Startup Travel Events site, Ecommerce Company, Flexpansion Ltd., Robomotic, Delivery Startup, Bloxx, and Gentoo Foundation. These roles allowed him to gain experience in areas such as founding and managing startups, developing predictive software keyboards, working on medical devices, and contributing to the Gentoo Linux distribution.

Chris Bainbridge completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at The University of Edinburgh from 1997 to 2001. Chris then pursued a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, specializing in the Institute of Computer and Systems Architecture, at the same university from 2001 to 2009.

Speech Graphics spun out of the University of Edinburgh’s world-renowned School of Informatics in 2010 under the leadership of founders Michael Berger and Gregor Hofer, and game industry veteran Colin Macdonald.Speech Graphics has won several awards for its speech-driven animation technology, including the prestigious John Logie Baird Award for innovation, an LT-Innovate Award, a Santander Entrepreneurial Award, and game industry awards including a 2015 Develop Award for Best Creative Outsourcer and 2015 TIGA Award for Best Animation Supplier. The company has also received several development grants, including grants from Scottish Enterprise and the University of Abertay.
