Jayadev Billa

Jayadev Billa is a distinguished expert in speech recognition and machine learning with extensive experience in academia and industry. Currently serving as Co-founder and Chief Scientist at Speechlab since 2022, Billa leads efforts to eliminate language barriers through cutting-edge technology. Previously, as a Sr. Computer Scientist at the USC Information Sciences Institute (2017-2024), Billa played a pivotal role in advancing Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) systems for low-resource languages and contributed significantly to various research initiatives. Billa's career includes key positions at Yahoo! and Microsoft, where notable achievements include pioneering ad tech strategies and modernizing customer interaction technologies. Billa's foundational research at Raytheon significantly advanced the field of speech technologies, resulting in several patents and industry-leading innovations. Billa holds an MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
