Kim Spence has over 25 years of museum experience. In addition to researching and cataloguing the museum’s paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, Kim recently managed the Speed’s deaccessioning program, coordinated the scholarly review of the museum’s 13,000-object permanent collection, and authored over 50 entries for Speed Art Museum: Highlights from the Collection (a collection handbook). During her tenure at the Speed, Kim has served as curator-in-charge for such traveling exhibitions as Rodin and Masterworks from the Albertina, and has organized numerous exhibitions, including Light into Line: Impressionist Prints, A Book of Prayers: The Medieval Bestseller, and Reclaiming the Plate: Nineteenth-Century Etching Clubs. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Kentucky, Kim continued her studies in art history in the Masters of Arts program at the University of Illinois, with a concentration in Northern Renaissance art. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies, and was awarded the National Endowment for the Humanities Younger Scholar Award.
