Andrea Sterzi has a diverse work experience in various scientific and research roles.
Starting in 2013, Andrea worked as a Collaboratore a progetto at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore until December 2013.
In 2014, Andrea began pursuing a PhD in Physics at Università degli Studi di Trieste, focusing on condensed matter physics and conducting research on novel materials using photoemission spectroscopy. This research spanned over three years, culminating in a thesis titled "Time and Angle-Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy Studies of Novel Topologically Ordered Materials."
In 2015, while still working towards the PhD, Andrea also took on the role of Academic Tutor at Università degli Studi di Trieste, which lasted until January 2016.
In April 2017, Andrea joined Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste as a Scientific Collaborator, where they developed a high harmonics generation (HHG) laser-based end station and optimized a set-up for pump-probe time-resolved angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES). Andrea was also involved in the laboratory activities of the T-REX project. This role lasted until November 2017.
From November 2017 to October 2020, Andrea worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Empa, focusing on developing a deep-UV Raman spectrometer for water chemical analysis. They also conducted fundamental research on novel materials during their time at the advanced analytical technologies division.
Most recently, Andrea joined Spiden in October 2020 as a Senior Photonic Engineer. At Spiden, Andrea led various activities in the R&D biophotonics team, including experiments, verification and validation tests, and laboratory work. Spiden aims to improve the well-being of humanity through their ligth+AI-based diagnostic platform, which allows real-time continuous biomarker and drug monitoring. Andrea's role is critical in uncovering the correlation between lifestyle choices, medication, and longevity, ultimately contributing to the advancement of preventive medicine.
Andrea Sterzi completed a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Physics from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, which took place from 2006 to 2013. Following that, from 2014 to 2017, Andrea pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physics from Università degli Studi di Trieste. Prior to this, Andrea attended Liceo scientifico Francesco Gonzaga from 2001 to 2005. The degree and field of study for this institution is not specified.
