Jens Hofrichter, PhD, PMP

Manager Optics & Photonics Engineering at Spiden

Jens Hofrichter, PhD, PMP is currently working at Spiden as the Lead Engineer for Optics & Photonics. In this role, they are responsible for building a team of integrated photonics engineers, revolutionizing the medical sensing market with breakthrough sensing devices, setting up Spiden's photonics manufacturing landscape and evaluating suppliers, and establishing R&D partnerships and university relations.

Prior to joining Spiden, Jens worked at ams OSRAM as the Principal Engineer and Program Manager. Here, they managed a large development program for the industrialization of a novel opto-acoustic sensing device, transitioned the transducer concept from the R&D stage to volume manufacturing, and successfully obtained funding through governmental funding.

Before that, Jens had various roles at ams AG, including Project Leader for Innovative Solutions Projects, Senior Staff Engineer, Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer, and Photonics Engineer. In these roles, they managed development projects for eye-tracking and camera systems, led a multinational team for the development of next-generation imaging sensors, introduced optical testing for medical imaging sensors, and designed and installed an optical measurement laboratory.

Jens also has work experience at IBM, where they served as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Predoc. In these roles, they were involved in the monolithic integration of III-V laser sources for IBM's CMOS silicon photonics technology, set up the Silicon Photonics prototyping line, and conducted research on Indium-Phosphide Microdisk lasers for optical signal processing and data transmission.

Additionally, Jens has worked as an Intern at IBM, a Student Assistant at AMO GmbH, and a Freelancer TCAD Designer at GWT. Jens has experience in simulation, optimization, and design in various fields.

Overall, Jens Hofrichter, PhD, PMP has a strong background in optics, photonics, and engineering, with extensive experience in the development and industrialization of sensing devices, imaging sensors, and laser technologies. Jens has a proven track record in project management, team leadership, innovation, and successful funding acquisition.

Jens Hofrichter, PhD, PMP has a strong educational background in electrical engineering.

Jens began their studies in 1996 at MANOS Dresden, where they obtained their Abitur in physics in 2002. In 2003, they enrolled at Technische Universität Dresden and completed their Vordiplom in electrical engineering in 2006.

Continuing their education, Jens pursued their studies at RWTH Aachen University, earning their Diplom-Ingenieur degree in electrical engineering in 2008. Jens then embarked on a PhD program at Eindhoven University of Technology from 2008 to 2013, specializing in electrical engineering. Subsequently, they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.

In addition to their extensive academic achievements, Jens holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute, which they obtained in December 2020.
