John Lincoln has extensive experience in the field of optics and photonics. John currently holds the position of Europe Strategy Director at SPIE, an international society for optics and photonics. John is responsible for developing strategies for the European region.

Prior to this, John worked as a Director and Business Development Consultant at Harlin Ltd since 2006. In this role, they provided various services related to optoelectronic technologies, including identifying user requirements, conducting company strategy reviews, and performing technology assessments. John also specialized in capital equipment planning and rapid product development.

John has held several advisory and leadership roles in prestigious organizations. John served as the Chair of the Steering Board at the Photonic Integration and Advanced Data Storage Centre for Doctoral Training. Additionally, they were a member of the Photonics Industry Steering Group at Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult and a member of the Business Advisors Group at the Institute of Physics.

Furthermore, John has been involved in the National Healthcare Photonics Centre, the Future Photonics Hub, and the Photonics Leadership Group. In their role as Chief Executive of the Photonics Leadership Group, they aimed to increase the UK's position as a leading player in the photonics industry.

John has also contributed to the field through their involvement in professional committees. John was a member of the Engineering, Science & Technology Policy Committee at SPIE.

John Lincoln completed their PhD in Physics from the University of Southampton between 1989 and 1993. Later in their educational journey, they pursued an MBA degree in Business from the University of Exeter, which they completed between 2001 and 2002.
