Riccardo Casatta is a seasoned software engineer and open source developer with extensive experience in blockchain technology. Currently serving as a Software Engineer at Blockstream since July 2018 and as an Open Source Developer at Spiral since November 2020, Riccardo has previously founded Eternity Wall, a blockchain-based platform for immortalizing messages, and worked at BlockchainLab and Geobit focusing on geolocation and innovation in advertising. Prior roles include administration and project management at Synaptica, software consulting for Zurich Insurance plc, and development at E.ON and iFaber. Riccardo holds a II level degree in Computer Science Engineering and a I level degree from Politecnico di Milano.

Spiral is an independent, bitcoin-focused entity within the Block ecosystem of companies. We build and fund free, open-source projects that improve bitcoin’s privacy, security, UX, and ability to scale. Though small, our reach is global, with employees and grantees distributed throughout more than 15 countries and counting. Our grant program alone makes it possible for more than 30 developers, designers, PMs, and creatives to work full-time on improving the bitcoin ecosystem.
