An expert clinical allergist and a member of the faculty at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. David D. Hagaman supports Spiras Health’s clinical operations, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care. Hagaman is currently the Medical Director of Outreach at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for the Vanderbilt Asthma, Sinus and Allergy Program (VASAP). He is also the Chief Medical Officer for BreatheAmerica, where he established a clinical research network for airway disease that involved multiple sites around the country.
Hagaman graduated cum laude from Bowling Green State University in 1983 and completed his medical degree at Ohio State University in Columbus in 1987. His internship and residency in internal medicine were conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, and the Ohio State University in Columbus. Hagaman remained at Ohio State for a pulmonary and critical care training fellowship from 1991 to 1993. From 1993 to 1995, he studied at Vanderbilt University as an allergy and immunology fellow. He later entered private practice and was appointed to the Vanderbilt faculty as an adjunct professor. Hagaman subsequently joined the lab of Dr. Dean Metcalfe at NIAID where he performed research on mast cell receptors and shared in allergy/immunology consultations.
Hagaman returned to Vanderbilt in 2001 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonology, and Immunology and Director of the Allergy/Immunology training program. He served as Chief Operating Officer of the VASAP program from 2001 to 2012. Dr. Hagaman has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI).
