Michael Surrey

Creative Director of Story and Animation at Spire Animation Studios

Michael Surrey has a diverse and extensive work experience in the animation industry. Michael is currently the Creative Director of Story and Animation at Spire Animation Studios, Inc. since October 2020. Prior to that, they worked at DreamWorks Animation as a Storyboard Artist from February 2012 to October 2020, and also as a Supervising Animator from January 2011 to February 2013. Before joining DreamWorks, Michael worked at Walt Disney Animation Studios, where they served as a Supervising Animator and Storyboard artist from 2005 to 2010. During their time at Disney, they supervised a team of animators on the character Ray in Princess and the Frog, and also worked on storyboards for Rapunzel (later known as Tangled) for two years. Additionally, Michael worked at DreamWorks Animation as a CG Animator from July 2003 to September 2004, and at Walt Disney Animation Studios as an Animator and Supervising Animator from June 1990 to March 2003.

Michael Surrey received a Diploma in Character Animation from Sheridan College, where they studied from 1983 to 1987. Michael then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree at the New York Institute of Technology from 1987 to 1990. The field of study for their BFA is not specified.
