Paul Gathercole

Paul Gathercole has extensive work experience in the technology and music industry. Paul is currently the Chief Technology Officer at Spitfire Audio, a position they have held since 2023. Prior to that, they worked as a Principal Consultant at n plus 1, starting in 2023.

From 2021 to 2023, Paul served as the Chief Data Officer at Utopia Music. During their tenure, they spearheaded the transformation of data as an asset, leading initiatives in data democratization, governance, and ML/AI-driven projects. Paul also played a key role in embedding the data function into cross-functional product teams.

Before joining Utopia Music, Paul worked at Amazon from 2017 to 2021. Paul held various leadership positions, including Director of Core Analytic Tooling for Prime Video, where they built and maintained a platform that scaled analytics across the organization. Paul also served as the Director of EU Commercial Insights for Prime Video, leading a team responsible for developing reusable analytics tools for the European marketing function.

Prior to their time at Amazon, Paul worked at Universal Music Group from 2005 to 2017. In their roles as Senior Vice President of Data Science and VP of Digital Tools, they focused on leveraging data to drive business decisions in the music industry. Paul also played a pivotal role in founding and leading the Digital Tools Group within UMG's Global Digital Business.

Paul's earlier experiences include working at Market Clusters as a Consultant, Universal Music Group as a Senior Technology Consultant, and Big Chill Recordings as a Label Manager. Paul co-founded and served as CEO of xoo, a boutique new media agency, from 1998 to 2001. Additionally, they were the General Manager of Advance Visual Communications PLC's London office from 2001 to 2002.

Throughout their career, Paul has been recognized for their expertise in data strategy, analytics, and technology leadership, and has made significant contributions to driving innovation in the music and entertainment industry.

Paul Gathercole completed their LLB (Hons) in Law from King's College London from 1989 to 1992. Paul then pursued an MSc in Computer Science from UCL between 1994 and 1995. In 2003 and 2004, Paul attended Imperial College London to obtain an MBA in Business.
