Paul Marchwica, P.Eng

Computer Vision Developer (Innovation Team) at Sportlogiq

Paul Marchwica, P.Eng has a diverse work experience that spans across a variety of industries. From 2005 to 2018, they have held roles in Materials Planning & Logistics, Quality Systems, C++ Programming, Software Development, Senior .NET Developer, and Computer Vision Developer.

At Ford Motor Company, they were a Co-op in Materials Planning & Logistics and Quality Systems. In Materials Planning & Logistics, they were responsible for generating daily production summaries and forecasts for plant management and identifying and eliminating obsolete production supplies to cut overhead costs. In Quality Systems, they maintained, updated and data-mined a scrap database to identify sources of downtime in crankshaft and engine block production in order to adhere to company QS9000/Six Sigma standards.

At Atlantis Cyberspace, Inc., they were a Co-op C++ Programmer, where they were part of a programming team converting topographic landscape models into AAO and FLT formats for virtual reality military simulations. Paul created a program module to import VRML models allowing for use in live simulations and gained practical experience in parallel software development and source control using Perforce software.

At NeoEdge Networks, they were a Quality Assurance Engineer (Co-op) responsible for testing and evaluating proprietary ad-enablement technology for use in online games. Paul produced testing designs and verified ad server patches using packet analysis tools.

At Johns Hopkins University, Center for Talented Youth, they were an Engineering Instructor, teaching core concepts from several engineering fields, focusing on structural/civil, electrical and aeronautical engineering. Paul prepared and delivered daily programs from fields including civil, electrical and aeronautical engineering while also organizing extracurricular activities for students and managing their teaching assistant.

At the University of Windsor, they were a Materials Researcher in the Light Metals Casting Technology Research Group. Paul was instrumental in academic and industrial research partnerships to develop materials and processes for enhancing automotive OEM components and improving materials research technologies. Paul conducted thermal analysis research to characterize rapid solidification effects on non-ferrous casting alloys with results that were published in international journals and form the basis of a patent. Paul also experienced in business aspects of R&D such as project proposal/report writing, vendor sourcing and delivering presentations to industrial and academic clients.

At BlackBerry, they were a Software Developer, developing software tools for the calibration and testing of future mobile phones and platforms. This entailed an end-to-end framework from low-level device driver communication to high-level station applications such as analytics and report generators. Paul worked on hybridization of the system to support both BB10 OS and Android OS phones.

At Senstar, they were a Senior .NET Developer, developing Symphony - an intelligent video surveillance software solution that offers an open IP video platform for video management, analytics and system integration. Paul tackled tough problems across the software stack wielding C++, C# and Javascript (with a retinue of libraries including jQuery, Knockout and Underscore) and a variety of industry standard platforms/tools (Jenkins, Subversion, Git, Ubuntu, Windows). Paul also crafted a responsive user experience that can intuitively handle many high-resolution video streams.

At Sportlogiq, they are a Computer Vision Developer (Innovation Team), developing solutions for automatic real-time sports tracking that take raw video and turn it into actionable data and analytics for teams, media, and other partners in the sports industry. Paul is implementing scalable, real-time libraries for such applications as video segmentation and camera calibration using a mixture of traditional and deep learning based computer vision techniques

Paul Marchwica, P.Eng's education history consists of a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, a Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Windsor, and Hon. Vincent Massey Secondary School. Paul also holds additional certifications such as Prepare for the PMI ACP Certification from LinkedIn (obtained in 2021), Machine Learning from Coursera Course Certificates (obtained in 2016), Aimetis Certified System Engineer from Aimetis (obtained in 2015), and P.Eng from Professional Engineers Ontario.
