John Heinecke

John Heinecke is the Chief Publishing Officer - EMEA, Americas and Oceania at Square Enix. John has over 16 years of experience in the video game industry, with a focus on marketing and publishing.

John started their career at Blizzard Entertainment in 2006 as Vice President Global Publishing - Overwatch. In this role, they were responsible for the global publishing team for Overwatch and Overwatch League. John directly managed two teams consisting of 24 direct reports, covering marketing functions for brand, creative, social, community, owned channels (website, CRM, Blizzard launcher) and press relations.

In 2018, they left Blizzard Entertainment to join Square Enix West as Chief Marketing Officer. In this role, they lead a 250 person marketing team across North America and Europe. John is responsible for publishing both Japanese and Western developed titles across multiple platforms and business models, generating over $1B in revenues. John also leads brand marketing, PR, influencer, community, business analytics, digital marketing, and creative functions.

John Heinecke attended Punahou School before going to Duke University for their BA in Political Science. Afterwards, they got their MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management with a focus in marketing and international business.

John Heinecke works with Hajime Seki - Chief Legal Officer, Atsushi Matsuda - Chief Accounting Officer, and Tomoyoshi Osaki - Chief Publishing Officer - Japan and Asia. John Heinecke reports to Yosuke Matsuda, President and Representative Director.
