Julie B Nichols has an extensive and diverse work experience in the field of music and performing arts. Julie B began their career in 2005 by establishing their own music production and composition company, Julie B Nichols Music. In 2007, they worked as an Associate Musical Director at Boom Chicago, where they composed and produced original music and sound design for various shows and also toured Europe with the cast.
In 2010, Julie joined The Second City as a Musical Director for their Mainstage, where they composed and produced original music, sound design, and songs for the performances. Julie B received a "Best New Work" Jeff Nomination for their work on the show South Side of Heaven.
From 2014 to 2018, Julie worked at the University of Chicago as a Lecturer in the Humanities Collegiate Division. Their role involved curating and teaching classes in theater, music, and improvisation, emphasizing collaboration, ensemble building, and the fundamentals of improvisation, songwriting, and creating musical revues.
In 2014, Julie also held the position of Music Director, Composer, and Sound Designer for a critically acclaimed Chicago show called The Art Of Falling, produced by The Second City & Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Julie B composed original music, conducted the pit band, and designed the sound for the production.
Most recently, Julie joined Squeak E. Clean Studios in 2019, first as a Senior Composer until 2021, and later as a Creative Director.
