Austin Frerick

Director at SRAP

Austin Frerick is the Director at SRAP. Prior to their current position, they were the Director of Special Projects at Open Markets Institute from January 2018 to December 2019. While at Open Markets Institute, Austin created and organized the "Heartland Forum" in Storm Lake, IA, which was attended by Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Secretary Julian Castro, and other candidates. Additionally, they authored a report on “America's Concentration Crisis,” which was covered extensively by David Leonhardt in a New York Times column -and cited by Vox and The Intercept and tweeted out by Sen. Sanders and David Axelrod. Austin has also published writings in Fast Company, Buzzfeed News, Forbes, Civil Eats, The American Conservative, & The Des Moines Register.

Before working at Open Markets Institute, Austin was an Economist - Office of Tax Analysis at the U.S. Department of the Treasury from January 2015 to December 2017. Prior to that, they were a Research Assistant at Congressional Research Service from January 2014 to December 2015.

Austin Frerick has a Master of Public Affairs from University of Wisconsin-Madison in Tax and Social Policy. Austin also has a Bachelor's Degree from Grinnell College. Austin studied abroad in Development & Health Policy Focused at the University of Botswana. Lastly, they have a High School Diploma from Thomas Jefferson High School.
