Jeffrey Smyczek began their work experience in 2014 as a Limited Term Employment Maintenance Staff at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) where they completed various tasks related to maintenance and teamwork. In 2015, they worked as a GIS Analyst at Pangea Studios at UW Whitewater (GIS Center), where they applied their classroom knowledge to real-world projects and gained experience in data management, web mapping, and print map creation.
From 2016 to 2017, Jeffrey participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, conducting research on mapping vegetation health from drones. Jeffrey developed skills in using cutting-edge software and hardware for this project.
In 2017, Jeffrey joined Wind Lake Solutions (now SSP Innovations) as a Geographic Information System Intern. Jeffrey learned about gas and electric utilities, updated GIS data, and prepared utility maps for entry into an enterprise GIS. Jeffrey later advanced to the role of Geographic Information System Specialist I, where they assisted peers, answered utility-related questions, and updated complex utility data.
Continuing their journey at SSP Innovations, Jeffrey became a Geographic Information System Specialist II in 2019. In this role, they executed quality control analysis, delivered processed data to customers, and coordinated work assignments to allocate resources.
Their most recent role is as a Project Lead at SSP Innovations, starting in July 2021. As a Project Lead, Jeffrey assists in project management duties for a team of GIS professionals and utilizes their expertise in GIS-related information for gas and electric utilities.
Jeffrey Smyczek obtained a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from 2013 to 2017. Their major was in Geography and they also completed a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certificate. Additionally, they pursued a minor in General Business during their time at university.
