Janna Marika Jalkanen

Homeroom, English And History Teacher at St. Bernard's School

Janna Marika Jalkanen has extensive experience in education, currently serving as a Homeroom, English, and History Teacher at St. Bernard's School since July 2018. Prior to this, Janna worked as an Administrative Coordinator at the FCINY Finnish Cultural Institute in New York from August 2017 to August 2018, and as the Middle School Head Teacher at Blue Rock School from September 2009 to June 2017, where responsibilities included designing and implementing a project-based, progressive curriculum for 7th and 8th grades. Janna's teaching career began as a Language Teacher at Ecole Française Jules Verne, covering English and Finnish for elementary to high school levels, and includes experience as a Preschool Teacher at Bodega Pastures Preschool from 2002 to 2007. Janna's educational background includes a Maîtrise and DEA in Modern Literature from Université Paris 8 Vincennes à Saint-Denis, studies at the University of Helsinki, and ongoing studies for a Master of Arts in American Studies at The City University of New York since September 2021.
