Agnes Bongers

Agnes Bongers is currently the Chief Communications Officer at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. Agnes has been in this role since November 2015. Prior to that, they were the Manager of Media Relations and Digital Strategy at Hamilton Health Sciences from October 2009 to November 2015. In this role, they were responsible for media relations, digital strategy, and issues and crisis management. From October 1987 to September 2009, they were an editor at The Hamilton Spectator, where they won multiple awards for their work, including the Ontario Newspaper Award and the Ontario Nurses Association Award for a series detailing the crisis in eldercare. Agnes also won the print portion of the Ontario Newspaper web award for a multi-section print supplement called Hamilton Now. In 2008, they attended the Neiman Seminar for Narrative Editors at Harvard University. Agnes also created and ran a mentorship/co-op program in the editorial department for Hamilton secondary students. Before their career in editing, they were a reporter and editor at Ontario Farmer from January 1983 to December 1987.

Agnes Bongers has a Masters of Communication Management from McMaster/Syracuse and a degree in Journalism from Lambton College.
