Mary Jo Vona has extensive work experience in the healthcare industry, primarily at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. Mary Jo started their career in 1980 as a Registered Nurse, working in various units and gaining experience in direct patient care, precepting, and charge nursing. Mary Jo also has some experience in Homecare and Labor & Delivery nursing. In 1993, Mary Jo worked as an Assistant Administrator at New York Heart Center for two years. Since 2013, they have been serving as the Director of Nursing Talent Acquisition and Retention at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, where they focus on maintaining nurse indicators, ensuring efficiency in hiring processes, and leading leadership training programs.

Mary Jo Vona earned their Diploma in Nursing from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1980. Mary Jo then went on to achieve their Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Le Moyne College, completing their degree in 2008. Mary Jo continued their education at Le Moyne College, obtaining their Master of Science in Nursing in Nursing Administration in 2014.
