Freda, known as Fred, completed her Registered Nurse training with Plymouth Health District School of Nursing in 1983. Her clinical background is predominantly in medicine; she specialised in haematology, bone marrow transplant and life limiting illness. Latterly and for 10 years prior to retirement from healthcare in March 2022, she was the Head of Occupational Health & Wellbeing at UHP.
As an experienced operational manager, Fred brings a wealth of relevant clinical experience and healthcare management plus a passion for staff wellbeing, for the benefit of both patients and staff of St Lukes. Fred has enjoyed voluntary work in Ghana providing healthcare in hospitals, the community and remote villages and jointly transported and delivered an ambulance from the UK to support outreach healthcare in rural communities and local schools to provide health checks. She has also supported the Shekinah Mission locally.
