Derek Sharrer has extensive experience in the baseball industry, holding various roles in different organizations. Derek started their career in 1994 at the Fort Myers Miracle Baseball Club, where they worked in various positions until 2000. During this time, they also served as the General Manager from August 1996 to October 2000. In November 2000, they joined the Charleston RiverDogs as the General Manager and worked there until March 2004. In April 2004, they joined the St. Paul Saints Professional Baseball Club as the Executive Vice President and General Manager, a position they currently hold.

Derek Sharrer pursued their education at Indiana University Bloomington from 1989 to 1993. During this time, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Business.

The St. Paul Saints are a professional baseball team based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Saints are in their second season as the Triple-A affiliate for the Minnesota Twins. Founded in 1993, today's Saints were a Northern League team through 2005. In 2006 the team was a founding member of the modern American Association. The majority owner is Marvin Goldklang who also owns a stake in five other minor league baseball teams throughout the country (Fort Myers Miracle, Sioux Falls Canaries, Hudson Valley Renegades, Charleston RiverDogs and Brockton Rox).
