Magda Michna

Magda Michna, PhD has extensive experience in the field of ophthalmology and medical device development. Magda is currently serving as the Chief Clinical, Regulatory and Medical Affairs Officer at STAAR Surgical since April 2023.

Prior to their current role, Magda worked at AcuFocus, Inc. as the Chief Global Clinical, Medical and Regulatory Affairs Officer from April 2018 to April 2023. During their tenure, they led the Clinical, Medical and Regulatory Affairs organizations, focusing on global product development and market adoption strategies for the IC-8 intraocular lens. Magda also played a key role in the FDA approval of the IC-8 Apthera intraocular lens. AcuFocus was acquired by an affiliate of Bausch + Lomb Corporation in January 2023.

Before joining AcuFocus, Magda served as the Chief Clinical Officer at Presbia from February 2017 to March 2018. Additionally, they worked at Alcon, A Novartis Division, where they held various positions including Head of Clinical Development - Surgical Franchise from November 2015 to January 2017 and Global Clinical Project Director from October 2012 to November 2015. At Alcon, they provided leadership and direction in clinical development, successfully achieving FDA approval for Class III ophthalmic medical devices.

Prior to their industry roles, Magda worked as a Project Lead/Vision Scientist at Johnson & Johnson Vision from January 2008 to October 2012. Magda played a significant role in transforming vision correction with the introduction of soft disposable contact lenses.

Magda began their career as a Research Fellow at McGill University, focusing on vision research in the Department of Ophthalmology from 2005 to 2008.
