Jonathan P. L. Spooner has a diverse range of work experience spanning multiple industries. Jonathan P. L. started their career in 1994 as a Web Developer/Designer at Annenberg Learner, where they developed educational programs. In 1996, they worked as a Lead Web Producer at Wolff New Media before joining Young & Rubicam as a Senior Producer/Creative Director. At Y&R, they designed and coded web advertisements for various brands. Jonathan P. L. then co-founded Netmix.com in 1999 and sold the majority share to Polyverse Inc., where they served as Chief Technology and Creative Officer. In 2001, they created Blentwell.com, an innovative DJ mix link compendium. From 2004 to 2010, they worked as a Product Director at Retail Media Link, overseeing the launch of an in-store media buying application. Starting from 2000, they served as the Founder/Principal at Kickstand, providing digital marketing strategy to clients. Jonathan P. L. also worked as a Strategist at Control Group in 2012 before joining Intersection as a Senior Strategist and Thought Leader in 2015. Currently, they are the Founder of Stacks + Joules, an engaging tech program that prepares high school students for internships in the energy efficiency industry.

Jonathan P. L. Spooner attended St. John's College from 1992 to 1996, where they obtained their Bachelor's degree in Classical Literature, Philosophy, Science & Mathematics. Prior to that, they studied International Marketing at The George Washington University from 1989 to 1991. In 2008, they pursued a Post-graduate program in the History of Electronic Music at Harvard University. Before their university studies, they attended Vermont Academy between 1985 and 1989, but no specific degree or field of study was mentioned for this period. Additionally, they have obtained certifications, including Introduction to Lighting Controls from the Lighting Controls Association in December 2022 and EPA Section 608 Certification from Stacks+Joules in May 2019.
