James Thomas

James is a co-founder of Thomas, McNerney & Partners and has been investing in health care companies since 1992. Thomas, McNerney & Partners is a health care venture firm that invests in life science and medical technology companies at all stages of development. James previously headed Warburg Pincus LLC's medical technology private equity practice, where he had responsibility for investments in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostic companies. During his career, James has served on the Boards of Directors of more than 20 public and private health care focused companies.

In addition to his activities in health care, James is an active owner/investor in the international shipping industry through the companies Thomas Maritime and Ithaca Marine.

James is a long-time member of the Congregational Church of New Canaan and has served multiple terms on its Board of Trustees. He has lived in New Canaan for 30 years with his wife, Eileen, and has four school aged children. James graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and received a M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics.
