Shara Israel

Director at Stamford Health

Dr. Shara Israel is a Primary Care Physician in the Stamford Health Medical Group, and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Israel attended Barnard College and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Medical School. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Cornell University Medical Center. In 1995, she joined the Stamford Hospital as the Associate Director of the Internal Medicine residency program and Director of outpatient clinics. In this capacity, she guided the residents in their care of Stamford’s underserved population and worked closely with community and hospital-based physicians. After 11 years in this role, Dr Israel joined a local Internal Medicine practice in town which was the first Primary Care group to become part of Stamford Health in 2012.

Dr. Israel founded and has continued to coordinate the Stamford Health Women Physicians group which meets quarterly and encourages camaraderie and ongoing medical education among the many varied medical disciplines of female physicians of Stamford Health. In addition, her practice serves as the site for all second year Internal Medicine residents to shadow and learn from her group’s physicians about community based Primary Care medicine.

Dr. Israel resides in Stamford with her husband David. They are currently “empty nesters” from their 4 children and one grandson.
