Stand for Children
Amy Kovanda is an experienced educator and community organizer with a strong background in teaching English Language Arts across various grade levels. Currently serving as a 7th/8th Grade ELA Teacher at Catalyst Maria Charter School since 2018, Amy has achieved notable student success, with 70% of students meeting or exceeding Spring NWEA goals. Prior to this role, Amy taught 8th Grade ELA at Chicago Collegiate Charter School and contributed as a Community Organizer for Stand for Children, managing 100 Parent Members to enhance college readiness for high school students. Amy's teaching career also includes a position as a 9th Grade Reading Teacher at The Noble Network of Charter Schools and as a Title 1 Reading Teacher at Indianapolis Public Schools, where students achieved significant reading growth. Amy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Legal Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marian University Indianapolis.
