Chris Field

Perry L. McCarty Director, Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment

Chris Field is the Perry L. McCarty Director of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment and Melvin and Joan Lane Professor for Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies. Their research focuses on climate change, improving climate models, and exploring renewable energy systems. Field was the founding director of the Carnegie Institution’s Department of Global Ecology from 2002 to 2016 and served as co-chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Working Group II from 2008 to 2015. They earned a PhD in Biology from Stanford University and have received numerous recognitions, including election to the US National Academy of Sciences.
