Lei (Stanley) Qi is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University, specializing in synthetic biology, genome engineering, epigenetic engineering, cell therapy, gene therapy, and CRISPR technologies since October 2014. Significant contributions include the invention of a CRISPR toolbox for epigenome editing, LiveFISH for DNA/RNA imaging, and CRISPR antivirals targeting RNA viruses. Qi also serves as a Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator and is the Founder and Scientific Advisor of Epic Bio. Prior roles include Systems Biology Faculty Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, where foundational concepts such as dCas9 and CRISPRi/a technology were developed. Qi holds a PhD in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley and UCSF, an MA in Physics from UC Berkeley, and a BS in Physics and Mathematics from Tsinghua University.
