Michael McFaul

Professor

Michael McFaul is an accomplished diplomat and academic with significant experience in international relations. McFaul served as the Ambassador to the Russian Federation from January 2012 to February 2014 and as a Special Assistant to the President at the National Security Council from January 2009 to January 2012, focusing on diplomacy. Currently, McFaul is a Professor at Stanford University since 1994 and has held the position of Director of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Affairs since January 2015. McFaul earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in International Relations and Affairs from the University of Oxford between 1986 and 1991 and a Bachelor’s Degree in the same field from Stanford University from 1981 to 1986.
