Courtney Sinner

Courtney (C.J.) Sinner has a diverse and extensive work experience. Courtney (C.J.) started their career as a staff reporter for The Minnesota Daily, covering student groups and campus events. Courtney (C.J.) later became an associate editor, managing a team of reporters and overseeing weekly news meetings. Courtney (C.J.) also gained experience as a freelance writer, fact-checker, and features intern for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, where they contributed to various projects and wrote news briefs.

Sinner then joined MinnPost.com as a project contributor and intern, collaborating on projects with database capabilities. Courtney (C.J.) further expanded their skills as a multimedia producer for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, where they worked on page design, photo editing, and video production.

In 2010, Sinner became an online producer for the Bismarck Tribune, with responsibilities including website content presentation, social media promotion, multimedia content development, and news graphics creation. Courtney (C.J.) later joined the St. Paul Pioneer Press again, this time as a digital producer.

Since 2014, Sinner has been working at the Star Tribune, where they started as a digital graphics producer. In this role, they built interactives and data visualizations for digital storytelling. Courtney (C.J.) then became a data visuals editor, focusing on data visualization best practices. Currently, they hold the position of director of graphics and data visuals, overseeing the graphics and data visuals team while collaborating with different departments.

Alongside their professional positions, Sinner has also been an adjunct instructor at the University of Minnesota, teaching a course on interactive and data journalism. In 2011, Courtney pursued further education at the Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism, obtaining an M.S. in Digital Media in 2012.
