LaKay Cornell has a diverse work experience, beginning in 1998 with various non-profit leadership roles. LaKay provided strategic communications, marketing, and startup consulting for a tiny house village designed for the homeless population in Northeast Florida, led the finance team and all finance operations as the CFO of a domestic violence shelter in St. Louis, and provided strategic operations, fundraising, and awareness events, product, and marketing consulting for an international non-profit that hires survivors of human trafficking for their jewelry centers.

In 2016, LaKay began working as a freelance writer and notable freelance clients and projects included Common, a virtual social impact incubator, Sustain, the magazine, a digital publication supporting a more sustainable lifestyle, and Needle Movers, a one-year campaign to increase the visibility of womxn changemakers.

In 2019, LaKay began working as a Strategic Advisor for Daily Haloha, where they advised the founder on strategies for revenue streams, content creation, and partnerships. LaKay also collaborated with the founder to create thought leadership through a combination of ghost writing, editing, blog posting, and brand features (on external sites).

In 2021, LaKay began working as an Editor in Residence for We Are Rosie and as the Head of Programming and Director of Communications for Climate Designers: The Party Program. In their role at Starchive, they created a brand voice and content strategy for a SaaS company at the forefront of the digital archive and NFT market, updated the brand identity, and designed numerous web pages, including the homepage. Her deliverables included an email drip campaign, press release, brand voice and content strategy, and website revisions.

LaKay Cornell began their education in 2001 when they obtained a Bachelors' Degree in Sociology, Women's Studies, and Society and Health from Simmons University. In 2004 and 2005, they earned a graduate certificate in Women in Politics and Public Policy from UMass Boston. LaKay then attended Boston College Law School from 2006 to 2009, where they earned their Juris Doctor. In 2009 and 2010, they attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where they earned a Master in Law and Tax Law. In 2017, they obtained an Inbound certification from HubSpot.
