Senior Manager, Mission Delivery at Starlight Children's Foundation

Sara Hewston, MS, CCLS has been working in the field of child life since 2012. Sara began their career as a Child Life Practicum Student at Texas Children's Hospital, where they completed three rotations in Out-Patient, Teen Play Room, and In-Patient Chronic Unit. In 2013, they joined Memorial Hermann Health System as a Child Life Intern, where they provided procedure and surgical preparation and procedural support to patients, as well as parent and sibling support. Sara also worked as a member of the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement interventions to normalize the environment, provide education, and opportunities to play. Later that year, they joined MD Anderson Cancer Center as a Certified Child Life Specialist, where they followed five attending physicians that specialize in the treatment of children with non-neural solid tumors. Sara was responsible for introducing self and services to all patients scheduled for surgery to provide surgical preparation and support, including specific surgical education, such as Port-A-Cath placement and Limb Salvage procedures. In 2014, they joined Memorial Hermann Health System again as a Certified Child Life Specialist. In 2017, they joined Starlight Children's Foundation as Senior Manager, Mission Delivery.

Sara Hewston, MS, CCLS completed their Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) at the University of St. Thomas (TX) in 2008, majoring in Marketing and Philosophy. Sara then attended Houston Community College from 2011 to 2012, studying Developmental and Child Psychology. In 2013, they obtained their Master of Science (M.S.) from the University of Phoenix in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Prior to this, they attended Friendswood High School. In addition, they hold a Certified Child Life Professional (CCLP) certification from The Association of Child Life Professionals, Inc.
