Richard Hotchkiss

Richard is a native Calgarian and father of three. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1980.

A pilot since 1973, Richard flew corporate jets and practiced law in Calgary for several years before obtaining an Air Law Diploma from McGill University in 1987. He went on to work as an aviation claims attorney and underwriter in offices around North America (New York, Toronto, Chicago and Vancouver).

He returned to Calgary in 1996 to start an aviation company which has evolved into Sunwest Aviation Ltd., one of Canada’s largest aircraft charter management companies where he is president and CEO. He served two terms as a board member for the Calgary International Airport (YYC) and also served on the board of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Center (AARC).
