Elizabeth Hughes

Elizabeth Hughes serves as the Director and State Historic Preservation Officer of the Maryland Historical Trust since October 2015, leading various historic preservation initiatives and acting as the primary liaison with the Trust's Board of Trustees. Prior to this, Elizabeth held multiple roles within the Maryland Historical Trust from 1995 to 2015, including Deputy Director and Chief of the Office of Heritage Planning and Outreach, where responsibilities encompassed managing state heritage programs and providing technical assistance. Additionally, Elizabeth was involved with the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers from 2004 to 2020, advocating for preservation policies at the national level. Educational background includes a Master of Arts in Architectural History from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Georgetown University.
