Michael Kanef

Michael Kanef is an accomplished finance professional currently serving as the Assistant State Treasurer for the State of New Jersey since February 2018, overseeing the Office of Public Finance, the New Jersey State Lottery, and the New Jersey Division of Investment, while advising Governor Murphy and State Treasurer Muoio on fiscal strategy and policy. Previously, Kanef held roles as the Director of the Office of Public Finance at the New Jersey State Department of the Treasury and as Chief Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Officer at Moody's Investor Services, where responsibilities included rebuilding and managing regulatory functions post-financial crisis. Kanef also served as Group Managing Director of the Asset Finance Group at Moody's, overseeing significant revenue operations. Educational credentials include a J.D. cum laude from Boston University School of Law and a B.A. with honors in Economics from Trinity College-Hartford.
