Valerie James

Valerie James, Ed. D. has a diverse range of work experience in the education field. Valerie most recently served as the Chief Academic Officer for the State of New Jersey since July 2022. Prior to that, they held positions as a Principal and Assistant Principal at the State of New Jersey, starting in December 2015. Valerie also worked as an Education Consultant for NYC from an unspecified date in 2010. Valerie held various roles at ECO Charter School, including Director Of Curriculum and Professional Learning from July 2013 to June 2015. Before that, they worked as a Literacy Coach, Staff Developer, Interventionist, and Teacher at Millville Public Schools from September 2007 to 2013. Valerie also briefly served as the Interim Vice Principal at PEARLS Hawthorne School K-8 in 2006. Additionally, they worked as an Adjunct Professor at NYC City College in 1998.

Continuing their educational journey, Valerie obtained their Ed. M. in Organizational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, during the years 2005 to 2007. Lastly, they achieved their highest level of education, a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), specializing in Educational Leadership and Administration at Rowan University, where they were enrolled from 2010 to 2018.
