Kayla Simas is an experienced educator and journalist with a diverse background in teaching and writing. Currently serving as a Teaching Artist Journalist at Sundog Theatre since January 2022, Kayla assists 4th-5th grade students in writing for their school newspapers. As a teacher at Notre Dame Academy of Staten Island, Kayla instructs 7th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies, as well as Journalism. Additionally, Kayla is a Breaking News Reporter for Staten Island Media Group and a Freelance Writer for Legiontown and Medium. Previous roles include Substitute Teacher and Pre K Teacher Assistant at the Archdiocese of New York, Reporter at amNewYork, and Managing Editor at The Impact News. Kayla holds a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from the City University of New York-College of Staten Island and multiple undergraduate degrees in journalism and English.
