StateoftheART is an independent contemporary gallery dedicated to representing artists from South Africa. The gallery comprises two spaces: an intimate exhibition space in the center of Cape Town, and a second space online - available to everyone regardless of geography: to browse, to learn, to look for advice and to buy art - at their convenience. We know buying art can be a major decision. That’s why every artist represented by StateoftheART is vetted: our intention is to deliver premium art with integrity and emotion, at great value. 

Established in 2010 and a pioneer in the online art market in South Africa, StateoftheART re-imagines the brick-and-mortar art gallery experience for the digital age, offering a new approach to discovering and buying contemporary art. Our pricing is clear and straightforward with the majority of the proceeds from a sale being returned to the artist who created the work. 

We host an exciting program of exhibitions by up-and-coming and established artists at the StateoftheART Gallery showroom in Cape Town; you'll find us at 50 Buitenkant Street, in close proximity to The Book Lounge, District Six Museum, The A4 International Arts Center, Swan Cafe and Truth Coffee, amongst other notable destinations.
