Phil Smith

Phil Smith has over 20 years of work experience in various roles related to risk management, audit, and governance. Phil currently serves as the Head of Risk & Governance at Staysure Group since March 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Head of Integrated Assurance (Audit & Risk) at Anglian Water Services from April 2021 to November 2022. Phil also worked at BGL Group where they held several associate director positions, including incident management, compliance monitoring, and internal audit from 2012 to 2021. Before that, they worked as the Acting Head of Audit at Phoenix Group from 2009 to 2012. Phil started their career as an Audit Manager at Alliance & Leicester in 2005 and then became the Head of Internal Audit at Arla Foods from 2002 to 2005. Phil also worked as an Audit Manager at Arthur Andersen & Co. and an Audit Senior at Haines Watts.

Phil Smith graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Systems Accounting & Decision Management from De Montfort University in 1996. Prior to that, they attended The Royal Latin School from 1987 to 1993. Phil also attended Brighouse High School, although the specific dates are not provided. In addition to their educational background, Phil has obtained several certifications, including being a Chartered Manager from the Chartered Management Institute since 2015 and a Qualified Risk Manager from the Institute of Risk Management since 2009. Phil is also a Part Qualified Lawyer (PGDL) from De Montfort University and a Chartered Acccountant (first time passes) from ICAEW since 2000.
