STEAMTEEN is a youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking barriers in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education by providing free, inclusive, and hands-on learning experiences for middle and high school students, focusing on reaching underrepresented communities.

Founded in 2024 by high school students in New Haven, Connecticut, STEAMTEEN was born out of a shared concern: too many students, especially those from Black, Hispanic, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and low-income backgrounds, lack access to quality STEAM programming. In response, we created a platform that delivers engaging, real-world learning opportunities without the cost or exclusivity of traditional programs.

Our first event — the STEAMTEEN Winter Conference — hosted at the Yale Peabody Museum, featured interactive science trivia and rocket building, expert guest speakers on paleontology and venomics, and networking opportunities for students across New Haven County. The event was free to attend and fully catered, thanks to support from local businesses. With 60 high school and undergraduate student attendees from West Haven, New Haven, East Haven, North Haven, Hamden, Naugatuck, and Milford, STEAMTEEN boasts a 100% approval rating for its first conference.

But we’re just getting started.

Our Goals:
1. Establish STEAMTEEN chapters in local libraries across Connecticut
2. Host annual conferences and workshops to build technical and leadership skills
3. Launch virtual seminars and resources via our website to reach students statewide
4. Expand partnerships with universities, local businesses, and STEAM professionals

We are building a community where young people from all backgrounds can explore their passions, find mentorship, and unlock their potential in STEAM fields. Our mission is clear: Inspire the innovators of tomorrow by creating opportunities today.
