Catherine (Cathy) Burzik is a seasoned senior executive in the healthcare industry. Cathy has successfully led major medical device, diagnostic, diagnostic imaging and life sciences businesses. Cathy most recently served as a general partner at Targeted Technologies, an early stage venture capital firm focused on medical device, life sciences and biotech investments. Previously she served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (NYSE: KCI), a leading medical device company specializing in the fields of woundcare and regenerative medicine. KCI was taken private by Apax Partners in 2011 for $6B. During her tenure KCI’s stock price doubled. Cathy led significant product innovation, global expansion, and diversification into regenerative medicine through the acquisition of LifeCell. Prior to joining KCI, Cathy served as President of Applied Biosystems, a leading life sciences tools company. Cathy has also held senior executive positions at Eastman Kodak and Johnson & Johnson (J&J), including CEO and President, Kodak Health Imaging Systems and President, Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc. In recognition of her service to and achievements in the medical technology industry, Cathy was awarded the prestigious 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award from AdvaMed, the Advanced Medical Technology Association.

Cathy has extensive public and not-for-profit Board experience. Cathy is a member of the Board of Directors of Becton-Dickinson and Company (NYSE: BDX) where she Chairs the Quality and Regulatory Compliance Committee and serves on the Nominating and Governance Committee and the Science Marketing Innovation Technology Committee. Cathy is also a member of the Board of Directors of Haemonetics Corporation (NYSE: HAE) where she Chairs the Technology Committee and serves on the Audit Committee. Additionally, Cathy serves as Executive Chairman, Gemini Bioproducts, Inc., Chairman, StemBioSys, Inc., and Chairman of the American College of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair. Cathy is also a member of the Board of Directors of Xenex Disinfection Services, Inc. and the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. Cathy’s previous board experiences include: Chairman of the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Branch of the Dallas Federal Reserve Board; member of the Board of Directors of Allscripts, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDRX); the Board of Directors of Bausch & Lomb; the Board of Directors of Cordis Corporation; the Board of Directors of AdvaMed; Chairman of the Canisius College Board of Trustees; and, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Keck Graduate School of Applied Life Sciences. In 2012, Cathy founded the Catherine M. and Francis N. Burzik Foundation dedicated to furthering higher education and the performing arts.

Cathy’s education includes a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, and a master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Buffalo. She has attended executive management programs at Penn State and the Kellogg School of Management. Cathy and her husband, Frank, are avid competitive ballroom dancers. They are both from Western New York and currently reside in San Antonio, Texas.
