George F. Murphy

Dr. George F. Murphy is a Harvard-trained skin pathologist with 40 years of experience as a physician-scientist focused on understanding the pathobiology of human and murine skin. His lab has been NIH-funded for the past 38 years, and he has over 300 peer-reviewed publications and over 15 textbooks and monographs to his credit. An elected member of the Society for Clinical Investigation, past president of the American Society for Dermatopathology, and past recipient of the Benjamin Castleman Award for outstanding research, Dr. Murphy’s most recent studies have concentrated on how skin stem cells participate in regenerative healing, dermatitis, and skin cancer. Co-director of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute Skin Program, Dr. Murphy has also has a major interest in how the epigenome and microenvironmental niches participate in complex cyclic regenerative phenomena such as scarless wound healing and hair follicle cycling and neogenesis.
