JAMES began their career in 1987 as a Teacher at the Ministry of Education, where they worked for 16 years until 2003. Following this, James joined Jefferson County Public Schools as a Teacher from 2003 to 2009. In 2010, they became an Assistant Head Teacher at STEP Academy Trust, a role they currently hold.

STEP Academy Trust currently comprises of seven members - Applegarth Academy, David Livingstone Academy, La Fontaine Academy, Gonville Academy, Wolsey Junior Academy, Angel Oak Academy and Heathfield Academy.
