Stephano Chu, Ph.D. has diverse work experience in the food and beverage industry. Stephano served as the Director of Product Research at Steuben Foods where they focused on creating innovative non-dairy beverages with simple ingredients. Prior to that, they worked as a Research and Development Scientist at John I. Haas, Inc., where they managed projects and developed novel hop products. Stephano also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Virginia Tech, studying the improvement of tilapia diets and evaluating natural antimicrobial compounds in medicinal mushrooms. Additionally, they gained experience as an Intern at DDW The Colour House, studying the heat and light stability of natural colorants, and as an Analyst at JLA Global, working in the peanut industry.

Stephano Chu, Ph.D. has a strong educational background in the field of food science and technology. Stephano obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biological Science from Virginia Tech, where they studied from 2008 to 2011. Building upon their undergraduate studies, Stephano pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Food Science and Technology from Virginia Tech, which they successfully completed from 2012 to 2013. Wanting to further advance their knowledge and expertise in the field, they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Food Science and Technology from Virginia Tech as well, graduating from the program from 2014 to 2017.

In addition to their formal education, Stephano Chu has also obtained several certifications to enhance their skill set. Stephano received the HACCP/HARPC certification from the Impact Washington NIST-MEP Affiliate in August 2018. In July 2018, they became a Certified Beer Server through the Cicerone® Certification Program. Additionally, in May 2015, Stephano obtained the HACCP-Seafood certification from the Association of Food and Drug Officials. Prior to that, they completed the Juice HACCP Certification Course at Virginia Tech in February 2013. Stephano also holds certifications such as ServSafe Certification from the National Restaurant Association, obtained in April 2012, and the FDA & USDA Better Processing School certification from Virginia Tech, obtained in March 2012.
