Kurt Olsen

Vice President, Shipyard Operations at Stevens Towing Company

Kurt Olsen has a strong background in the maritime industry. Kurt started their career in 2013 as a 3rd Assistant Engineer at Crowley Maritime and later moved on to positions at Kirby Offshore Marine and Tidewater Marine in the same role. In 2015, they became a 2nd Assistant Engineer at MEBA Dist 1-PCD (AFL-CIO) before joining the US Navy Reserve as an LTJG in 2013. Kurt's most recent position is at Stevens Towing Company, where they worked their way up from Shipyard Coordinator to Shipyard Manager, and currently holds the role of Vice President, Shipyard Operations.

Kurt Olsen attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy from 2009 to 2013, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Marine Engineering/Shipyard Management. In addition, they obtained the certification of 2nd Assistant Engineer of Motor Vessels Unlimited HP from the U.S. Coast Guard in June 2013.

Stevens Towing Co. Inc. is a midsize freight transportation company based on Yonges Island, Sc just south of Charleston with regional offices in Edenton, Nc, Morehead City, Nc and Savannah, Ga. Stevens Towing Co. was founded in 1913 on Yonges Island and originally engaged in moving produce and passengers from local barrier islands to the Charleston market. Today Stevens engages in Inland, Coastwise and Ocean Towing. We have experienced operators and crew; a fleet of 13 tugs; a fleet of 60+ barges in multiple sizes and configurations; cranes (including two 500 ton floating cranes based in Charleston and Savannah); a US Flagged Jones Act ship and a full service shipyard. Stevens Towing regularly services the East, West and Gulf Coasts of the US, including the Western Rivers and Great Lakes, as well as international ports.
