Dr. Michael H. Robinson's 29-year career as an instructional leader has been defined by his desire to promote equity and build a sense of unity among stakeholders. He has served many communities, including public and private schools, in several roles, including Special Education teacher, Head Basketball Coach, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Executive Director of School Turnaround.
While in his second year of college, Dr. Robinson decided that he wanted to work with young adults in some capacity. Due to the impact he was able to have on children, he decided to pursue a career in educational leadership. A seasoned leader with a demonstrated history of success in school turnaround and continuous improvement, Dr. Robinson accepted a position with the District of Columbia Public Schools as a special education teacher and basketball coach in 1993.
Between 1994 and 1999, Dr. Robinson found success with Fulton County Schools in similar positions. Before the turn of the century, Fulton County Schools promoted him to the post of a curriculum assistant principal and a high school principal. Between 2012 and 2014, Dr. Robinson gained valuable expertise in the field as the Executive Director of school turnaround for Mosaica Education.
Dr. Robinson comes to Stewart County from his most recent role as a high school principal at Martha Ellen Stilwell School of the Arts (MESSA) with Clayton County Public Schools. Even though his career has been filled with standout moments, he is especially proud of obtaining a National Blue-Ribbon School for Exemplary High Performance.
Additionally, he accepted a Gold Award for High Performance on the State Assessment from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement, a Distinguished Title One School recognition from the state of Georgia, an Outstanding Leadership in Community Service Award from the Georgia House of Representatives in 2009 and an awardee of the 2020 Terrell H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership from the United States Department of Education.
Under Dr. Robinson's leadership, MESSA's arts-infused educational approach flourished. Through collaboration, equitable opportunity, and unifying communication, he strengthened the school's capacity to develop an instructional framework that bridges the arts and core curriculum. However, his passion for seeing that all students reach their full potential led to its success.
In pursuit of his aspirations, Dr. Robinson graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in special education administration from the University of the District of Columbia in 1993. Subsequently, he earned an Educational Specialist degree in educational leadership and administration from Jacksonville State University in 1997 and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from Argosy University in 2008.
Dr. Robinson is a member of the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, Georgia Association of Educators, and the National Alliance of Black School Educators.
