Heidi Tuhkanen, PhD, is a senior expert, researcher, and project manager at the Stockholm Environment Institute since January 2008, focusing on urban sustainability across sectors. Key areas of expertise include sustainability assessments, nature-based solutions, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable supply chain governance. Tuhkanen has a strong track record in project management, including grant applications and collaboration coordination, and is a founding member of the IRDR International Center of Excellence. Previous roles include project researcher for HELCOM, project coordinator for the Union of Baltic Cities, freelance consultant, development and event manager for The Pachamama Alliance, and business development volunteer with the United States Peace Corps in Ukraine. Tuhkanen holds a PhD in Urban Environmental Policy from the University of Helsinki and has advanced degrees in Urban Environmental Management and International Studies and Economics.
