Niall O'Connor is an accomplished leader in environmental conservation and sustainable development, currently serving as the Director of the Asia Centre at the Stockholm Environment Institute since January 2016. O'Connor has extensive experience in bridging science, policy, and practice to support decision makers in creating sustainable futures. Prior to this role, O'Connor was the Executive Director at PONT, where strategic plans were developed for a Nature Trust fund across three countries, and worked as a consultant focusing on conservation and development. O'Connor's tenure at WWF included positions as Regional Representative in East and Southern Africa and Director of Performance & Development, enhancing conservation strategies by engaging communities, governments, and businesses. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science in Conservation Biodiversity from Imperial College London, a Master of Science in Agroforestry from UCD, and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Forestry from UCD.
