Dave Smith has a diverse work experience in project management, particularly in the energy and construction industries. Dave started their career in 1985, working for various international companies such as Bovis Lend Lease and Chevron, managing large-scale projects in oil and gas, energy, pharmaceuticals, and commercial ventures across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the USA. From 2002 to 2006, they worked for PJ Hegarty & Sons, where they managed projects in joint ventures with Jacobs International. In 2007, they joined GEM Construction Ltd as a Project Manager until 2009. In 2010, they transitioned to Fortum and Fortum Heat Scandinavia, where they continued their role as a Project Manager. Since 2018, they have been working as a Project Manager at Stockholm Exergi, an energy company owned by the City of Stockholm and Fortum, providing heating and cooling solutions to the metropolitan area.

Dave Smith has a diverse education history. In 1973, they attended St Columbas High School, where they completed their high school education. Following this, from 1978 to 1981, they enrolled at James Watt College, studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and obtained an Engineer's Degree. In 2010, they pursued further education by attending STF Ingenjörsutbildning, where they earned BAS P, a Health and Safety Certificate in Health and Safety Coordination during the Design Phase. Additionally, they also completed BAS U at STF Ingenjörsutbildning AB, specializing in Health and Safety Coordination during the Construction Phase. Lastly, in 2010, they attended The George Washington University School of Business, where they obtained a Master's Certificate in Project Management, focusing on a PMI-based course in Project Management.
