Karolyn DeKam is a dedicated academic and advocate in the fields of sociology and social justice. Currently serving as a Teaching Assistant and Instructor in Sociology at Stony Brook University, Karolyn manages a mixed methods research portfolio that focuses on gender, fundamentalist religion, and U.S. politics while assisting with classroom activities and student assessments. Previous experience includes serving as a Mobilizing and Advocacy Specialist for the Christian Reformed Church in North America, where Karolyn tracked national policy developments and represented advocacy priorities to external stakeholders. Additional roles as a Civitas Research Fellow at Calvin University involved collaborating on research projects regarding Evangelical femininity and the intersection of religion and politics. Karolyn also contributed to environmental advocacy through an internship at the West Michigan Environmental Action Council, and demonstrated leadership as Vice President and President of Calvin University's chapter of Period., focusing on menstrual hygiene advocacy. Karolyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Calvin University.
