Head of Capital Markets at Stori

Joel Wilson is the current Head of Capital Markets at Stori. Prior to this, they were a Teaching Assistant at The Johns Hopkins University - Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) from September 2018 to December 2018. In this role, they were responsible for leading the graduate course entitled “Financial Inclusion.” The seminar-style course covered a span of topics related to financial inclusion, including the origins of microfinance, understanding the financial needs of the poor and how to design products that serve them, use of technology, digital financial services and fintech models, regulation and supervision, impact investing, and impact measurement.

Before their time at SAIS, Joel worked as a Sr. Investment & Portfolio Analyst, Venture Lab at Accion from August 2016 to October 2020. In this role, they were responsible for investing and portfolio management for the company. Joel led due diligence, financial and valuation analysis, and negotiations leading to $2M+ in investments across 7 transactions spanning the sectors of lending, payments/banking, and savings in the US, Brazil, India, Egypt and the Philippines. Additionally, they proactively participated in board governance including providing strategy recommendations in board meetings and leveraging portfolio learnings to guide companies.

Joel Wilson completed a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) at McGill University, with a focus in marketing and entrepreneurship. Joel also attended Brentwood College School.

Joel Wilson reports to Bin Chen, Co-Founder & CEO. They work with Omar Herrera - CISO, Nick Chen - Co-Founder & CTO, and Allen Hunt - Head of Credit & Business Analytics.
